View Article  Watercolour in the rain

Today I was so impressed by the forboding sky, dark and mysterious with alternate sunny spells that I whizzed over to Bowood to capture the light play and reflections in the lake. As  set up my sketching gear the sun was on the reeds against an inky blue black sky, just fabulous!

I mixed my first wash, poised my big mop and the first crack of thunder announced the arrival of... yes, torrential rain. Redulant of the old Cadbury's flake advert I looked at the still wet stretched paper,  indigo coloured paint mottled with rain splodges now growing outwards to the edges and in my mind christened it "Snow storm over Bowood"......oh (----!) (well!)

View Article  ‘BOWOOD THROUGH THE ARTISTS’ EYE’

This is the title of an Exhibition to be held in the Orangerie Exhibition space during the 2011 season at Bowood. Lord Lansdowne is very supportive of this project indeed has even chosen the title of the Exhibition.

It follows the very successful exhibition held by the group exactly ten years ago

titled ‘Outside Insight’.

As with that exhibition but with refreshed eyes the group are asked to respond to this special environment and record their experience according to their particular specialist skills.

As the group is comprised of painters, sculptors, illustrators, printmakers, ceramicists, stone carvers, and stained glass artists, this presents a challenging prospect. The visual interpretation of the House, gardens and wildlife throughout the seasons will undoubtedly inspire, resulting in an exciting exhibition reflecting the various skills used and the creative vision of each artist and craftsperson.
